A leak in a gas pipeline at Zindabazar of the city caused a huge fire
on Saturday night, triggering panic among the locals.
Mohammad Tarek, Senior Station Officer of Sylhet Fire Service, said
the fire originated from a leak in the gas pipeline of Jalalabad Gas
Distribution near Shukria Market around 11pm.
On information, firefighters rushed in and doused the flame.
The leak in the gas pipeline was fixed at about 2am. However, there
was no casualty or injury in the incident. -UNB, Sylhet
Meanwhile, the people of Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka district are not
getting gas for last one week as one Sirajul Islam Patwary allegedly
caused the gas pipeline to burst while doing the piling works of his
building.
As a result, two lakh subscribers are suffering, but the Titas Gas
authorities have not taken any action against him.
Local people are angry with Sirajul Islam Patwary and Titas Gas for
not getting gas during this holy month of Ramadan.
Many people, who cannot observe fast for want of gas, are planning to
start agitation, local sources said.
One gas consumer, Joynal said although Titas Gas is assuring them
everyday of restoring gas connection they have not done so.
Ataur Rahman, former chairman of Shuvadya union of south Keraniganj
said local people will start agitation if gas line is not restored in
a day or two.
On July 14, the main line of the gas supply suffered damage when
Sirajul Islam Patwary’s men were engaged in piling work for
constructing a building in Hasnabad area of south Keraniganj.
Titas Gas DGM Abdul Bari said that work is going on to restore gas
