People rejected budget, says Ershad

Rangpur – Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday said people have rejected the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2017-18 as a huge tax burden was imposed on them. -UNB
“The budget will make people’s lives very difficult due to the imposition of huge tax load on them. No one is happy with the budget and they’ve not accepted it,” he said.
Ershad, also the Prime Minister’s special assistant, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at his Palli Nibas residence here.
He said the budget should have been ‘pro-election one’ as the general election will be held next year. “The way the budget was formulated no one –farmers, service holders, public servants and rickshaw pullers– has accepted it.”
On June 1, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith unveiled a Tk 400,226 crore budget for the next fiscal year (2017-18) with a growth target of 7.4 percent, expecting to open up a new horizon for Bangladesh through some initiatives ahead of the next general election.
Ershad, also a former military ruler, said his party will not share any parliamentary seat in Rangpur with any party in the next election.
He said they have already prepared the list of potential candidates for 300 seats, including those in Rangpur.
The Jatiya Party chief said their party will fare well in the next polls. “We have a chance to win nearly 130 seats in the election.”
