People see hope after 16th Amendment verdict: BNP

Dhaka – The BNP on Friday said that the people of the country could see some light of hope to get relief from the “grasp of the ruling Awami League (AL)” following the release of the full verdict of the Supreme Court on 16th Amendment to the Constitution.“The verdict has irked and disappointed the party (AL) but the people can see some ray of hope in the realm of besieged democracy,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference at party headquarters at Naya Paltan.
His comments came two days after the release of the full text of the verdict on 16th amendment to the Constitution.
The BNP leader hailed verdict saying that it upheld the independence of judiciary, democracy and rule of law.
The apex court scrapped the 16th amendment to the constitution that had empowered the parliament to remove its judges for incapacity or misconduct.
Rizvi said staying is power following the scrapping of 16the amendment the Constitution is unlawful and illegal.
The country is going under the Awami League’s law, he alleged.
The BNP leader alleged that the ruling party and police are obstructing their drive for enrollment and renewal of membership in different parts of the country.
Despite that people from different sphere of life are enrolling themselves for the BNP, he said.
He said the party has so far sold 42 lakh membership form the central office. – Staff Report
