People urged to sacrifice animals at designated spots

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday urged people to slaughter their sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha in designated places to avoid environmental and health hazards.

The minister made the urge during a meeting with the representatives of all city corporations and municipalities at the secretariat.

He also urged those who want to slaughter their sacrificial animals at their own house premises to quickly remove the wastes on their own arrangement and to avoid open places for slaughtering.

Khandker Mosharraf said, a total 2,954 spots have been designated this year in 11 city corporations of the country for slaughtering sacrificial animals during Eid-ul-Azha.

Among the spots, there are 620 in Dhaka South, 543 in Dhaka North, 210 in Rajshahi, 314 in Chattogram, 163 in Khulna, 135 in Barisal, 36 in Sylhet, 183 in Narayanganj, 117 in Rangpur, 190 in Cumilla and 443 in Gazipur.

“The authorities concerned of the city corporations, municipalities, upazila and union parishads will take effective measures to ensure quick removal of waste after slaughtering,” said the minister.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon said the wastes of sacrificial animals will be removed timely from the south part of the city.

DSCC will also provide free waste bags to the people so that they can store the wastes in those bags to avoid mess in the slaughtering places, said the mayor urging everyone to avoid slaughtering in waterlogged places.

In the programme, 11 mayors and representatives of municipalities were also present among others.
