Hossain came to the limelight by penning popular TV drama series of the 80s, ‘Shakal-Shandhya’ and ‘Shuktara’.

She is a sister of seasoned filmmaker late Alamgir Kabir and mother of noted filmmaker, painter late Khalid Mahmood Mithu.

Her husband Jahangir Hossain, a retired police officer, died in 1989.

Hossain will be buried at the Banani graveyard after the funeral prayers at Uttara Sector 6 on Friday, Tania said.

The Begum Rokeya Award-winner served as the principal at the Udayan Higher Secondary School in Dhaka. She also took an active role during the War of Liberation in 1971.

Acclaimed television producer Kha Ma Harun has reflected on his relationship with the playwright in a Facebook post.

“I met her over work, have known her for long. She was like a guardian to me,” reads the Facebook post if translated into English.

“It was hard for her to accept the untimely demises of her brother and son in road accidents.”
