PM, AL has taken politics to dangerous alley: Fakhrul

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Sunday alleged that Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina had taken the politics in a dangerous corner.
“She (Hasina) is standing on shifting sand and has lost the ground under her feet,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh to mark the Revolution and Solidarity Day of the party.
The BNP leader warned that the consequence would not be good for her if she does not shift her position. “We have witnessed that no autocratic government can sustain finally,” he added.
Referring to the consequences of autocrats including Hitler of Germany, Mussolini of Italy and Ayub and Yahya Khan of Pakistan, he said none of them could survive despite running steam rollers on the oppression.
He said the ruling Awami League does not like November 7 as the day is considered death knell for them.
Fakhrul said the cat was out of the bag with the disclosure by HT Imam about the interference of the government in January 5 elections. The people cannot be taken to be foolish, he observed.
He said those who want to ignore November 7 and President Ziaur Rahman ultimately want to deny the existence of Bangladesh.
Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal organised the meeting with its president Noor-e-Ara Safa in the chair. Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Bilkis Yasmin and Sultana Ahmed, among others, also addressed the meeting.
Meanwhile, in statement, the BNP spokesperson strongly condemned and protested the filing of case against BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman and issuance of a summon against him.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed at a press conference at party headquarters accused the government of carrying out repression on opposition leaders and activists.
“The secondary BAKSAL will not sustain as the primary BAKSAL of 1975 did not sustain for a long time,” he warned.
The BNP leader said the government not backed by voters was a role model of police state for all autocratic governments in the world.
Meanwhile, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal yesterday announced a two-day agitation programme protesting filing a defamation case against Tarique Rahman.
As part of the programme JCD will stage demonstration today at district, city and university levels and tomorrow at thana, poura and college levels. – Staff Reporter
