PM Hasina asks Awami League MPs to get ready for general election

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked Awami League lawmakers to get ready for the next national election.She gave the order in a meeting of Awami League Parliamentary Party on Tuesday.“Two and half years of the government’s tenure has passed. The next election will be held after two years and three months. So you all will have to prepare for it from now,” the Awami League chief told the MPs.

Several MPs, including an organising secretary of the party, spoke to bdnews24.com about what was discussed in the meeting.Awami League returned to power in January 2014 in the 10th Parliamentary Election boycotted by the BNP.Questioning the validity of the election overseen by Awami League itself, the BNP has been demanding midterm polls. But Awami League leaders have said there will be no general election before 2019.A Chittagong MP told bdnews24.com Hasina asked legislators to finish development work in their areas within the current tenure of the government.She also asked them not to be concerned about the recent terror attacks and instructed them to raise awareness against militancy and terrorism.“We have solved many problems before and we will also solve the current problem,” she was quoted by the MP as saying.The MP said Hasina asked them to supervise the anti-militancy sermons in Juma prayers.She asked the female MPs to organise the women in their areas.The prime minister also criticised an MP for expressing his doubt over police’s capability to tackle militants.
