PM unveils Bangabandhu’s autobiography Spanish version

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday unveiled the Spanish version of the autobiography of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman – ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’.

She unveiled the cover of the book, published by Spanish Embassy in Dhaka, at a function at her official residence Ganobhaban.

The book was first published on June 18, 2012 in its original Bangla version ‘OshomaptoAtmojiboni’ as well as in English.

The book is now available in 10 languages, including Bangla, English, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, French, Urdu, Arabic and Spanish ones.

Bangabandhu wrote the book while in prison from 1967-69. In his autobiography, Bangabandhu described the context of writing it.

He also narrated his life portraying ancestry, birth, childhood and social and political involvements in student life.

Spanish Ambassador in Dhaka Alvaro de Salas Gimenez de Azcarate also spoke on the occasion.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, PM’s International Affairs Adviser RowherRizvi and State Minister for Foreign Affairs ShahriarAlam were present at the event conducted by Principal Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office MdNojiburRahman.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said the autobiography of the Father of the Nation is the information bank about the politics of this subcontinent.

“Many information regarding his life and our subcontinent can be learned from the writings in this book, especially it is an information bank about the politics of this subcontinent,” she said.

Hasina thanked the Spanish Ambassador in Dhaka and all others involved in translating, editing and publishing the book in Spanish language.

The Prime Minister said she collected the reports of Pakistani Intelligence Branch (IB) placed over Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman from 1948 to 1971 for publishing books reviewing some 40,000 pages in 46 files of the reports. A book has already been published over the IB reports placed from 1948 to 1950, she added.

The 14 volumes of the book will be published over the reports of the then Intelligence Branch regarding Bangabandhu, she said.

Hasina said such books with reports of intelligence unit placed against any leader are usually not published in any country of the world.

“But, we’re doing it as information regarding the life of the Father of the Nation and consistent history of the emergence of the independent Bangladesh can be known from the book.”

The Prime Minister went on saying, “It’ll be an important document for those who want to conduct research. I think, there’re huge information about Bangladesh history and this subcontinent in it.”

Addressing the event, the Spanish envoy said they feel proud of publishing the autobiography of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman in Spanish language, which has become an international language after English.

He said today some 572 million people speak Spanish and 476 million of them are native speakers.
