Disapproving PM Adviser HT Imam’s statement that the media misrepresented his speech, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said it is not possible to fool people at this age of ICT by blaming the media.
“The people of Bangladesh are now in the 21st century, not at the medieval age. In this era of information and communication technology (ICT) many things are available in the YouTube. So, it’s not possible to fool people blaming the media,” he said.The BNP spokesman came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh arranged by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, marking the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’.
Earlier on Wednesday, HT Imam, addressing a BCL programme at Dhaka University, said, “You (BCL men) just pass the written test of BCS, we’ll see how much we can help you with the viva voce. Our leader (Sheikh Hasina) has told us to arrange jobs for you by any means.”
He also pointed out the advantage of having party men in the administration, and how the AL benefited from them. “Days before the January-5 polls, many pro-Awami League officials were inducted into mobile courts that helped the government resist the BNP-Jamaat’s bid to thwart the election. They (pro-AL officials) stood beside us,” Imam said.
Amid criticisms by the opposition parties and his party colleagues, HT Imam at a press conference on Monday claimed his speech was represented ‘fragmentarily’ by a section of the media spreading a wrong message that he assured Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders of jobs in the civil service.
He also noted that the BNP-Jamaat clique took full advantage of the ‘fragmentary’ representation of his speech.
Fakhrul said HT imam divulged the government’s plot and tricks over the January-5 election no matter what he is saying now.
He also slammed the Prime Minister for her remark that those who criticise the January-5 polls are immature. “I want to ask the Prime Minister are country’s all the people, the UK and USA all immature?
The BNP leader claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is making such comments standing on quicksand as she lost ground beneath her feet.
“The Prime Minister has taken the politics to a dangerous proportion. At present, she is standing on quicksand as she has lost ground beneath her feet. The consequences won’t be good if she doesn’t move back from her current position. Because, we’ve seen in history no autocrat could last for ever,” he added.
Fakhrul urged the Prime Minister to read people’s minds and their eyes shunning her arrogance.
Reiterating their party’s demand for a fresh election under a non-party administration, he said, “You’ll have to arrange the polls today or tomorrow. So, I request you don’t push your party towards danger by buying further time. Arrange a fresh inclusive election immediately to escape public wraths.”
The BNP acting secretary general also alleged that the government is blocking all the democratic spaces by resorting to repressive acts.
He also alleged that the government’s is implicating BNP leaders and activists in ‘false’ cases to suppress their movement. – UNB
