Police arrests Biman employee in gold smuggling case

Dhaka – The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested an employee of Bangladesh Biman Airlines from Uttara in the city on Tuesday night in connection with recovery of 14.5 kg gold from the domestic terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on December 23 last year.Acting on a tip-off, a Special DB team arrested Abdus Sattar, a technician of Biman Bangladesh airlines, from Uttara on Tuesday night, said Assistant Commissioner of DB Manzur Morshed.
Sattar was produced before a Dhaka CMM court on Wednesday seeking a 10-day remand for interrogation. After hearing, the court granted 5 days remand, AC Manzur Morshed added.
Officials of Customs Intelligence detained four people– Anwara Begum (30), Nahida Farzana Moni (25), Anwar Parvez (25) and Osman Sohel (29 from the domestic terminal along with along with 14.5-kg gold bars. Anwara and Nahida worked at a beauty parlor in Chittagong They boarded as domestic passenger from Chittagong on a Biman Bangladesh flight BG-046 of Kuwait-Chittagong-Dhaka route on December 233 afternoon.
A case was filed with Airport police station in connection with the incident following day. The case has now been investigated by the DB. – News Desk
