Police officer’s son shoots himself to death

Dhaka, Sept 30 – The son of deputy commissioner of police (DC), Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) allegedly shot himself dead with his father’s licensed gun in the capital on Monday morning.Deceased Sadik Bin Sajjad, 17 son of Sajjadur Rahman, was preparing for his higher secondary examinations (HSC) from Dhaka City College, said Lalbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Ashraf Uddin.
Sadik was found lying dead on the bed, Lalbagh police station’s the OC confirmed to Journalists.
Family members said Sadik had been alone at home yesterday afternoon when he might have moved his father’s gun from his personal drawer.
Also, he was believed to be in mental pressure about his upcoming examination.
“Everything you heard is true. I don’t know how this had happened. My son killed himself,” said Sajjadur Rahman over the phone.
DC of Ramna Thana confirmed about his son’s tragic death to the media in this manner.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.
“We recovered a bullet, which was stuck on the left side of his brain. Preliminary report confirmed the suicide,” said Dr Sohel Mahmud Head of Forensic Medicine department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
OC Ashraf said they are investigating the matter.
The incident took place early in the morning in their Azimpur Government Colony residence when all of his family members were sleeping, said Saifur Rahman, assistant commissioner of DMP, New Market Zone.
Police said that while Sadik house tutor went to his house on yesterday morning, the door of his bedroom was closed. Later, the family members broke the door and found Sadik body was found lying in the bedroom.
Police informed that there was a suicide note beside his body where he mentioned about his mental pain.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Rajarbagh Police Lines ground around 3pm yesterday.
He is expected to be laid to rest at his hometown in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah.
DC Sajjadur Rahman was Superintendent of Police (SP) in Satkhira District. Two months ago he joined DMP. Sadik was his elder brother among three children. Sadik was twin and the other one was died after birth. – Staff Reporter
