Speakers at a rally have underscored the need for creating mass public awareness and police-people cooperation to launch a vigorous social movement in building a drug-free society.There is no alternative to save the young generations from social erosion like drug abuse and addiction as the worsening situation could create real barriers for normal flourishing of their talent to become worthy citizens for leading the nation in future, they said. They were addressing the anti-drug rally organised by Saddyapuskurini union committee of community policing at the Shaheed Minar premises in Palichara Bazaar under Sadar upazila here on Tuesday evening.Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Faruk attended the rally as the chief guest with Chairman of the Saddyapuskurini union committee of community policing Sergeant (Retired) Badsha Alamgir in the chair.Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (A Circle) Humayun Kabir, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Thana Abdul Kader Zilani, Member-secretary of the District Coordination Committee of Community Policing Shushanto Bhowmick, local union chairman Abdur Rouf, addressed as special guests.Members of District Coordination Committee of Community Policing Khondker Abul Hasnat Fakhrul and Advocate Dilshad Islam Mukul and Community Policing Officer Sub-inspector Ferdous, also spoke.Hundreds of men, women, youths, adolescents, students, teachers, farmers, civil society members, local community and religious leaders, members of the community policing committee, socio-cultural activists and local elite were present.The speakers discussed consequences of drug abuse on the young generations, families and society and stressed for taking comprehensive social and administrative steps with stringent measures to save the youths from the alarming social curse.Expressing concern over increasing use of drugs, they called for launching social movement against drugs to save the future generations from the dreadful wrath of drug aggression for building healthy and peaceful environment in the society.They also suggested the guardians for creating awareness among their children to launch a stronger campaign against drugs beginning from every house for turning Saddyapuskurini union into an area free from drug abuse and addiction.The chief guest stressed for enhanced police-people cooperation to fight back the situation through rooting out the social curse of drug abuse and addiction once for all from the society. -BSS, Rangpur
