Police use robot in Fatullah drive recover explosives

Narayanganj, Sept 23 (UNB) – Monirul Islam, the chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has said explosives recovered from the ‘militant den’ in Tokkar Maath area of Fatullah resembled those were sued during recent attacks in the capital.

Besides, university teacher Fariduddin Rumi and his brother Jamal Uddin, who were arrested from the hideout during the drive, are members of Neo JMB, he said while addressing a press briefing in front of the ‘militant den’ on Monday afternoon.

Rumi, a teacher of Mechanical and Production Engineering at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, had link with the major attacks that took place in Dhaka targeting police, Monirul said.

CTTC Assistant Commissioner Touhidul Islam said there was a laboratory inside the house where some improvised explosive devices were also found.

Earlier, police and detectives cordoned off the house of Joynal Abedin, former DGM of Bangladesh Bank, in Tokkar Math area of Fatullah in the early hours of Monday suspecting it to be a militant den.

They arrested Rumi, 27, and Jamal, also sons of Joynal Abedin, and Rumi’s wife Jannatul Foara Anu, 22, an employee of Agrani Bank Ltd. Jamal is a teacher of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet).

Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Police Station, said they cordoned off the house around 4am acting on a tip-off that militants were hiding there.

Later, the law enforcers conducted a drive inside the house with the help a remote controlled robot.

Abdullah Al Mamun, superintendent of police of the district, said explosives and bombs were found in the house.

Later, a bomb disposal unit defused those.
