Polls after 5 years as per Constitution: Ashraf

The Awami League has poured cold water on the idea of a snap general elections demanded by the BNP and many foreign countries including the United States.
“The 11th parliamentary election will be held after five years and according to the Constitution,” General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said on Wednesday. He made the remark during his introductory speech at the meeting of party’s Central Working Committee.
Party President Sheikh Hasina, who had broached the notion of a mid-term national election, was in the chair.
Ashraf asked the Awami League leaders to stay alert as many ‘plots’ were being hatched even after the party came to power.
It took office for a second consecutive time after winning a landslide in the 10th parliamentary election on Jan 5, which was boycotted and rejected by the BNP and its allies.
Since then, the BNP has been pressing for talks to reach an agreement in order to hold fresh elections under a non-party government.  – bdnews24.com
