‘Polls even without BNP’: Amu

The new Land and Disaster Management and Relief Minister Amir Hossain Amu thinks what gives credibility to election is turnout of voters and not those who contest. The minister arrived at the ministry around 10am and interacted with the staff.
The Awami League Advisory Council member said the government will make try its utmost to hold a dialogue with the Opposition.
He, however, said the election would be held even if the BNP did not join it.
“The Awami League might also not contest the election. Won’t the election be held then?
“Won’t the election be held if anybody avoids election fearing defeat?” he said.
The veteran leader, who stayed away from the cabinet in the last five years, said voters’ turnout was the most important factor for a successful election.
The Awami League leader flayed BNP acting Secretary General for threatening to cripple the country if polls schedule was announced.
“This is not a democratic language,” he said.
Amu said people had expected that the BNP would take part in the election in response to the Prime Minister’s call.
He alleged the Opposition was killing people in the name of agitation.
Amu could not give any specific information about the meeting between BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Saturday, rumours about which were reported by the media.
The new minister was greeted by the officials with flowers in the morning. Former Land Minister Rezaul Karim Hira and state minister Mustafizur Rahman were present at the time. – Bdnews24.com
