Preliminary list of DUCSU polls candidates published

Dhaka, Feb 27 – Dhaka University (DU) authority on Wednesday published the preliminary list of candidates after primary scrutiny of the nomination papers for its Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall unions polls scheduled for March 11.
According to the list, a total of 20 candidates will vie for the vice president post while 12 candidates will contest for the general secretary post and 13 candidates will run for assistant general secretary post in the central student union poll.
A total of 11 candidates are vying for the liberation war secretary affairs post, 9 each the posts of science and technology affairs secretary and common room and cafeteria affairs secretary posts, 13 for international affairs secretary post, eight for literature affairs secretary, 12 for cultural affairs secretary, 11 for sports affairs secretary, 10 for student transport affairs secretary, 15 for social welfare secretary and 88 for members post.
Some nomination papers of Bangladesh Chhattra League (BCL), Jatiatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), left students front were cancelled including Pragotishil Chhatra Jote after the primary scrutiny for filling nomination papers with untrue information and for not having names in the voter list published earlier on March 20.
Candidates whose names were not accepted as eligible candidates could apply to the concerned authority in writing today till 12:00 pm. The final list would be published after further scrutiny on March 3.
Candidates who lost their candidature after primarily scrutiny are Left Alliance candidate for general secretary (GS) post Umme Habiba Benojir, DUCSU central member candidate from BCL Nipu Islam Tonny, Salimullah Muslim hall union polls JCD VP candidate Nahid and indoor sports secretary candidate Kahhar Fahim, Samsunnahr Hall union VP candidate Ziamin Shanta and JCD VP candidate Mansura Hossain.
Meanwhile, candidates from various panels including BCL, JCD, quota reformists and independent candidates started to go to voters for introducing themselves and exchanged views among students although formal election campaign would be started on March 3 after publication of final list of candidates.
VP Candidate from BCL panel Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon was seen to talk with students on the university campus area and hearing their demands.
Asked about how student response them Shovon said, “Now we are only going to the students and introducing ourselves to them as formal campaign would be started after publication of the final list candidates name on March 3”.
“We are also hearing that what kind of university they want and hope we will build a university which every student dreams”, he added.
On the other hand, JCD vice president candidate Mustafizur Rahman also started view exchange with students. He was seen to do such kind of view exchange with students on the campus shadow, library premises.
Mustafiz told reporters, “We are now starting view exchange only with students and talking with them about our objectives and dreams about university”.
“Students response to us is positive, we hope we will be able to win polls if the authority hold the election fairly ” he added
Left Alliance candidates also started their campaign on the university campus in favour of getting support from students in election.
Liton Nandi, a vice president candidate from the left students alliance said, “We are going to the students and raising our demands and plans about students and they are responding to us in a good manner”. – Staff Reporter
