Preparations for Durga Puja continue in full swing in the city and nine upazilas of the district where all-time record number idols of
Goddess Durga are being erected this year, officials and leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad said.
Tens of hundreds of Hindu community people of all ages are rushing to the markets and purchasing Puja clothes to celebrate their greatest
religious festival from October 10 with great enthusiasm, religious fervor and gaiety.
The district administration and Puja Udjapan Parishad Committee (PUPCs) sources said nearly 66 puja mandaps are being set up this year
in the metropolis while 337 in nine upazila of the district.
The artisans are passing their busiest time at this peak hour to give finishing touches to idols of Goddess Durga with their artistic
creativity and colors. The five-day festival will begin from October 10 and end on October 14
when the Hindu communities celebrate Bijoya Dashami through the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga with festivity and religious
fervor.The concerned authorities have given assurances of smooth supply of electricity to all puja mandaps at nights to enable the Hindu devotees
offering their prayers, puja, archanas, kirtons and other religious rituals smoothly.The district and police administrations and other law enforcement
agencies are also taking special security measures for ensuring peaceful celebration of the festival.-BSS
