President, PM pay tributes to martyrs of Liberation War

Dhaka, Mar 26 – President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War by placing wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar on Friday morning, marking Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day. This year, the country is celebrating the Golden Jubilee of its Independence.
President Hamid first placed wreaths at the altar of the memorial followed by the Prime Minister.
After placing the wreaths, the President and the Prime Minister stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the 1971 great Liberation War.
A smartly turned-out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force presented a state salute on the occasion, while the bugles played the last post.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Sheikh Rehana, the youngest daughter of Bangabandhu, and civil and military high officials were present. – UNB
