Pro-Govt Blue panel sweeps Dhaka University dean election

Dhaka, Apr 29 (UNB) – The Blue Panel of teachers, backed by the ruling Awami League, swept the Dhaka University (DU) dean election on Monday.

The ‘Blue Panel’ candidates were elected deans of nine faculties, out of 10, while a candidate of pro-BNP ‘White Panel’ was elected dean of one faculty.

The elected ‘Blue Panel’ deans are Abu Md Delwar Hosain of Arts Faculty, Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury of Faculty of Sciences, Sadeka Halim of Faculty of Social Sciences, Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of Faculty of Business Studies, Imdadul Hoque of Faculty of Biological Sciences, SM Abdur Rahman of Faculty of Pharmacy and Nisar Hossain of Faculty of Fine Arts.

Md Hasanuzzaman was elected dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology from the pro-BNP ‘White Panel’.

ASM Maksud Kamal (Blue Panel) of Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty and Rahmat Ullah (Blue Panel) of Law Faculties were declared elected deans unopposed before the election as no one from other panels had submitted nomination papers.

The voting for the election began at 9:00am and continued till 1:00 pm at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

DU treasurer Kamal Uddin Ahmed acted as the election commissioner.
