Process begins for Nizami verdict execution: Minister

Dhaka – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Friday said the government will follow all legal procedures for executing the verdict against Matiur Rahman Nizami sentences to death for war crimes, unb news agency reeported.“The government will not make any haste in this regard. Like previous war crimes cases, he (Nizami) will be executed maintaining all the legal procedures,” he said while talking to reporters after attending a programme at the Jatiya Press Club.
Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Smriti Parishad organised the programme marking the 12th death anniversary of former Awami League MP Ahsanullah Master of Gazipur.
The Home Minister said the process has begun to implement the death sentence of Nizami after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected his review petition against its earlier verdict upholding his death penalty awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal.
Mentioning that it is not possible to exactly say when his death penalty will be executed, he said, “But it won’t be done without completing all the legal procedures.”
About Sunday’s hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami, Asaduzzaman said people are against any hartal. “It’s the demand of people to punish the war criminals,” he added.
On Thursday, Jamaat called a 24-hour countrywide hartal for Sunday protesting the Supreme Court order upholding its ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami’s death penalty.
