The professional groups could play vital role in launching vigorous social movement involving the people from all walks in the society to eradicate child marriage, speakers at a reception ceremony said Monday.
RDRS Bangladesh organised the ceremony for according reception to 25 adolescents who escaped child marriage in different areas of Rangpur division with the assistances of the NGO, local administrations and professional groups.
With Head of Programme Coordination of RDRS Bangladesh Monjusree Saha in the chair, valiant freedom fighter and Secretary of Rangpur unit of Shushashoner Janno Nagorik Akbar Hossain attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
Noted human rights and women activists Advocate Shameema Shirin, Hasna Hena Chowdhury, Moshfeka Razzaque and Marhamatun Nesa, senior journalist Mahbub Rahman and social worker Alamgir Hossain addressed as the special guests.
The twenty-five adolescents with their guardians, members of different professional groups, NGO officials and executives, women community and socio-political leaders, marriage registrars and human rights activists participated.
The speakers narrated the grievous impacts of child marriage on the premature girls leading them to shattered and catastrophic lives destroying future and increasing neonatal, maternal and children deaths in rural areas.
They also discussed the reasons behind child marriage and suggested for rectifying the previous mistakes through launching a social renaissance against the curse that has engulfed the backward rural people creating unrest in the family life and society.
The chief guest asked all stakeholders including the professional groups for launching vigorous social movement involving the people from all walks in the society to eradicate early marriage once for all from the society everywhere in Bangladesh. -BSS, Rangpur
