Program taken to observe World Environment Day in Faridpur

A preparatory meeting to chalk out a program to observe the World Environment Day of June 5 was held here on Sunday afternoon in the conference room of Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur.

The meeting was chaired by ADC (Gen) ANM Abdus Sabur while Deputy Director (DD) of Environment Directorate Md. Saifullah elaborately described the importance of this day in the perspective of our country which is facing constant threat of the adverse impact of climatic change and other natural disasters throughout the year.

The DD pointed out that this years’ slogan is “Go Wild for Life” indicating the conservation of forestry in the country for maintaining ecological balance that would help the threat on environment.

Decisions were taken that two schools of this town will hold special program on environment in their respective schools. The Shishu Academy of Faridpur will arrange art and painting competitions among the children to create awareness among the children about protecting environment.

It was told in the meeting that human race is the ‘worst enemy’ of environment who destroyed it for years together bringing disastrous situation. It was also decided that a centrally organized discussion meeting on the day will be held on June 5 where elite, teachers, NGOs and other people will be present.

Faridpur Pourashava authority was requested to clean up the town regularly and remove the garbage heaped hither and thither will be removed. Pourashava was also requested to remove the sign boards and bill boards fixed on the trees by June 5. Social Forestry Department announced in the meeting that they will arrange plantation of 200 saplings on this day.
