A group of local and Indian singers enthralled their audience at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum with their presentations of evergreen songs composed by Rabindranath Tagore recently.
Rabindra Academy organised the event in association with Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre and the museum to mark the 155th birth anniversary of the Nobel laureate poet, which was observed on May 8.
Besides Tagore songs, there were also talks, launch of a recitation album containing Tagore’s poems as well as giving away of honorary awards.
The evening’s main attraction, however, was a performance by eminent Indian singer Pramita Mallick who captivated the audience with her charming voice and nuanced presentation of Tagore’s songs.
The evening also included performances by local Tagore singers Semonty Manjuri, Rafiqul Alam, Lili Islam, Anup Bhattacharia, Anamika Tripura, Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury and others.
Earlier, a discussion session was held in which Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith was present as chief guest, accompanied by Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and the National Museum’s director general Faizul Latif Chowdhury.
Azizur Rahman and Bulbul Mahlanbish, respectively president and general sectary of Rabindra Academy, were also present on the occasion.
Singer Pramita Mallick, US-based Tagore researcher John Thorp and academic Anisuzzaman were honoured at the programme, which also saw the launch of an album featuring recitation of Tagore’s poems. Recitation artistes Rupa Chakraborty, Shahria Piu and Bulbul Mahlanbish recited the poems.
