Progressive teachers’ panel sweep Ruta polls

The panel backed by pro-Awami League and -left-leaning parties swept the Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association (Ruta) polls held on Monday.
The Yellow Panel of the progressive teachers bagged all the posts of Ruta 15-member executive committee.
Teacher of Geology and Mining Department Quamrul Hasan Majumder and Pranab Kumar Pande of Public Administration Department were elected president and general secretary respectively.Martuza Khaled of History Department was elected vice-president while Chemistry Department teacher M Habibur Rahman treasurer and M Mashiur Rahman of Mass Communication and Journalism Department joint general secretary.
Others elected executive committee members include KM Robiul Karim of Social Works Department, Kumar Karmakar of Statistics Department, M Ashrafuzzaman of Islamic Studies Department and M Enayet Hossain of Marketing Department.
Some 969 out of 1183 Ruta members cast their votes in the polls held at Zuberi Bhaban on the university campus from 8 am to 2 pm.
Pro-BNP and Jamaat teachers who contested the polls through ‘White panel’ could not secure any post.- UNB
