Proper steps if capital market is affected: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith said in Parliament on Wednesday that no one of the capital market was greatly affected due to the massive mayhem ahead of the January-5 parliamentary elections, “If it is so affected, the government would take appropriate steps to revamp the capital market,” he said, replying to a supplementary question of Awami League MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed. Answering to starred question of Mustafa Lutfullah (Satkhira-1), Muhith said that the government oversees all financial institutions including banks for detecting any sort of militant activities of Jamaat-Shibir or any others. He informed the House that the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), which was set up at the central bank, monitors all the scheduled banks and financial institutions and takes instant action about allegations of patronizing any terrorist activities. Meanwhile, the government has banned five organizations on the allegations of terrorism and patronizing militant activities, the Finance Minister said. – UNB
