Properties worth Tk.6 lakh gutted in Rampal

Properties worth Tk.6 lakh were  gutted when a big fire broke out in the village Mallikerber under Rampal Upazila in the district Bagerhat on the night of Saturday. Locals said,  that the fire originated from the kitchen belonging to one Harmuz Talukdar of the village at dead night, spread to the adjacent dwelling houses without the knowledge of inmates and when they woke up the fire already went out of control. On hearing hue and cry of the inmates and on seeing the flame of fire the villagers and the neighbouring people rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for more than three hours. But in spite of that total five houses belonging to Harmuz Talukdar and Mofizul Talukdar with their all belongings were burnt to ashes. As a result, all the members of the two families were rendered homeless.
Hijacker arrested with booty in Bagerhnat

A hijacker was caught red-handed by the police while he was fleeing away with Tk.20 thousand from Sadhanar Mor, the most busiest place of Bagerhat district town on Sunday in a broad day light. The hijacker was identified as one Hannan Shaikh (40), son of one Sultan Shaikh of Milky-Depara under Rupsa Upazila in Khulna district In this connection a case was lodged with Bagerhat Model PS.It is learnt from the police that on the day one Shiben Sheuli (48), son of one Nirmal Sheuli of village Barakpur under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila withdrew a sum of Tk.20 thousand from the local branch of Social Islami Bank, situated at Shaltala area and as soon as he reached Sadhanar Mor 2/3 hijacker appeared there and suddenly snatched away the money from him and tried to flee away.Bagerhat Correspondent
