Claiming that none of his recent remarks on the historical figures in the Liberation War of 1971 was speculative or spurious, BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman has thrown a challenge to Awami League leaders to prove him wrong.
In a statement on Saturday, Tarique, also the eldest son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said he while addressing different programmes in 2014 had made some statements on Bangladesh’s independence and the Liberation War in light of the history validated by references in newspapers and journals published both at home and abroad.“But without giving any logical explanation as to what part of the statements were wrong, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several other leaders of her party are coming up with offensive remarks against me,” Tarique alleged.
He said the AL president should restrain her party leaders spreading falsehood and advise them to mind their languag.
In the statement, disseminated by BNP’s London unit, Tarique also suggested that if AL wants to stop spreading falsehood, it should start from their own home.
“All my logics based on information and evidences are appearing to be false to Awami league. I have read in newspapers that Awami Leauge has called for stopping what they’re terming as falsehood,” he said, adding, “If Awami League thinks that these should be stopped, Awami League should first stop spreading lies and wrong information by itself.”
“It’s Awami League which had started spreading wrong information in the beginning,” Tarique said adding, “Whenever Awami League came to power, it tried to change history.”
AL had tried to change the history with court support, he said adding that it was AL which erased the names of ‘proclaimer of independence’ Ziaur Rahman and one of the leading figures of that time Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani from school textbooks.
Noting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is coming up with various slanderous remarks about his lifestyle without being knowledgeable about it, Tarique said the Prime Minister’s remarks about him ‘doesn’t bear any mark of mental soundness’. – UNB
