Mayor of Rangpur city and valiant freedom fighter Alhaj Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu today asked the parents, public representatives and citizens to provide Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every under-five baby.
He said Vitamin A ensures normal growth of the babies and reduces their death risks, prevents night blindness and corneal lesions through increasing disease resistant capacities.Jhantu said this while inaugurating the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign- 2014 through administering Vitamin A Plus Capsules to a number of under five babies on Lions School & College premises in the city as the chief guest.Civil Surgeon Dr Reajul Islam, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Mozammel Haque, Sadar Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer Dr Shamsul Haque, Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) Secretary Fazlul Kabir, Divisional Surveillance Medical Officer of the World Health Organisation Dr Shameem Hossain, RCC Ward Councilors Hafiz Ahmed Chchuttu and Akram Hossain, Acting Principal of the educational institution Bula Bhowmick and RCC Medical Officer Abdul Kaiyum were present.Narrating importance of providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every baby, Jhantu stressed on making the campaign successful to prevent various diseases of the babies for ensuring their normal growth in building a healthier nation.According to RCC sources, some 1,23,800 under-5 babies are being administered with Vitamin A Plus Capsules at 264 permanent and 15 satellite outreach centres in all 33 wards and 33 supervisors and 792 volunteers have been administering the capsules.Under the programme, 18,000 babies aged between 6 and 11 months and 1,05,000 others between 12 and 59 months are being given Vitamin A Plus Blue Capsules and Red Capsules respectively.Besides, special door-to-door campaign will be conducted from April 6
to 7 to administer Vitamin A Plus Capsules to the babies, who will not be able to get the same today to make the programme a complete success in the city corporation area. -BSS, Rangpur
