Speakers at a function here on Sunday stressed the need for providing quality and standard services to the municipality dwellers regularly through ensuring transparency and accountability.
“In this context, the service providers particularly the elected representatives including mayor and councilors of the municipality will have to come forward with the attitude to serve the people honestly rising above all sorts of criticism”, they said.They made the comments while addressing a view exchange meeting with the authorities of Gaibandha Municipality at its conference room of the town.Sachetan Nagarik Committee (SNC) formed in the inspiration of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) arranged the function in cooperation with the municipality to improve the standard of services for the town people.With vice president of SNC Zahurul Islam Kaiyum in the chair, the function was also addressed among others by Gaibandha Poura mayor M. Shamsul Alam, councilors Shahidul Islam, Kamal Ahmed and Azahar Ali, TIB area manager Bakhtiar Hossain, SNC members Mashiar Rahman Khan and Probir Chakrabartee and Yes group leader Rasheduzzaman.The meeting discussed elaborately about different issues including the
protection of Poura dwellers from the illegal land grabbers, terrorists, and environment destroyers and the development of waste management and drainage system and conducting mosquito killing drives frequently.Besides, the Poura mayor and councilors were urged to take necessary initiatives to remove severe traffic jam and eve teasing, and build a drug free town side by side with involving the mass-people in different committees to check irregularity and corruption of the development activities of the municipality. -BSS, Gaibandha
