BNP refused permission to hold Suhrawardy Uddyan rally

BNP did not get permission to hold its scheduled public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan today to mark its National Revaluation and Solidarity Day. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was scheduled to address the meeting as the chief guest.
“We have not yet received the permission. We are still waiting for it to hold the meeting,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told journalists at 8:15pm on Friday.Meanwhile, a five-member BNP delegation led by party joint secretary general Barkat Ullah Bulu yesterday went to the office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner for permission to hold the meeting. They waited for three hours at the DMP office but failed to communicate with the Commissioner,” said a BNP leader. The BNP leaders later came back to their office and said none did come and talk to them at the DMP office.
When contacted city BNP convener Mirza Abbas also confirmed that they are yet to receive permission from the DMP
He said that the Public Works Department (PWD) has already sent them a letter that they would not allow the BNP to use the Suhrawardy Udyan ground to hold their planned meeting.
Asked about the next course of action, the BNP policymaker said they would take a decision in this regard soon. The BNP had announced the public meeting on October 31. – Staff Reporter
