Rail bridge alongside Jamuna Bridge on PPP basis

Railway to upgrade its 5 hospitals into medical colleges thru PPP
The government will build a separate railway bridge alongside the existing Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge to facilitate railway connectivity and the project will be implemented on a public private partnership (PPP) basis.
The decision in principle came at a meeting of the Cabinet Economic Affairs Committee held Wednesday with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair,
The Railway Ministry will implement the project as dual gauge, double track bridge.
“This (railway) bridge will be least-costly as it does not need river training since it will be built alongside the present Jamuna Bridge,” Muhith said while briefing the newsmen about the proceedings of the meeting.
As per another decision of the Cabinet body, the Railway Ministry will build another metre gauge railway bridge at Fulchhari-Bahadurabad point on the Jamuna River and an inland container depot (ICD) at Dhirasram railway station. Both the projects will be implemented on PPP basis.
The Cabinet Economic Affairs body also approved the Railway Ministry’s proposals to upgrade five of its existing 50-bed hospitals into 250-bed medical colleges and hospitals on different unutilized railway lands. All these projects will be implemented on PPP basis.
These are at Kamlapur Railway Station, Chittagong CRB Railway Hospital, Pabna Paksey Railway Hospital, Railway land in Khulna and Syedpur Railway Hospital in Nilphamari district. Each of the medical colleges will have 50 seats.
The Cabinet body gave its nod to a Shipping Ministry proposal to build an inland container terminal at Khanpur in Narayanganj on PPP basis.
It also approved a proposal of the Environment and Forest Ministry to withdraw its two factories from the privatization list. These are Karnaphuli Timber Extraction Unit and Lumber Processing Unit in Rangamati.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet Purchase Committee approved nine (9) proposals that include tender for procuring 60,625 electric poles for rural electrification; tender for printing and binding of books for Ebtedayee, Dakhil and Vocational level of education for 2014 session; and tender for construction of three (3) multi-storied buildings (each 14-floor) for government officers at Mirpur in the capital.
