Chittagong – A court here on Wednesday indicted suspended general manager of Bangladesh Railway (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and four others in a graft case filed over corruption in the railway recruitment.
The four other accused are Railway additional chief engineer (Mechanical) Hafizur Rahman, senior social welfare officer (suspended) Golam Kibria, and two candidates – Sultana Begum and Ganesh Chandra Shil – who were recruited as assistant chemists in exchange for money. Judge of the Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge Court SM Mujibur Rahman also issued a warrant for the arrest of all the accused as they are now on the run.
Passing the indictment order, the court fixed March 13 for the trial to start, said Anti Corruption Commission lawyer Mahmudul Haque.
The ACC filed the case with Kotwali Police Station in September 13, 2012.
Earlier on February 5, the same court framed charges against five people, including Mridha, in another graft case.
The other accused are Hafizur Rahman, Golam Kibria, Anisur Rahman and Abul Kashem.
This case was also filed on September 13, 2012 for appointing unqualified persons by manipulating recruitment test results.
On April 9, 2012 , Border Guard Bangladesh detained former Railways Minister Suranjut Sengupta’s assistant personal secretary and Mridha along with Tk 70 lakh stashed in a car. It was believed that the money was collected from job aspirants to railway as bribe.
Following the incident, Mridha was suspended. – UNB
