Rajshahi University 65th founding anniversary celebrated

Rajshahi, July 6 – The Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday celebrated its 65th founding anniversary amid festivity and fanfare on the campus.
Marking the day, university authority chalked out colourful processions, discussions, tree plantation and rally.RU Pic founding anniversaryb 06.07.2018RU vice-chancellor professor Dr M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the programmes around 10am through releasing the balloons, pigeons and hoists the university flag half-mast in front of the university administrative building. Later, a tree was planted near the senate building of the university.
A colorful procession with banners and placards was set out on the campus at about 10:30am while RU vice the vice-chancellor led the procession and marching different roads of the campus it ended in front university senate building.
All the important buildings of the university were nicely decorated with colorful lightings the day before to mark the founding anniversary.
Among others, RU pro vice chancellor Professor Dr Ananada Kumar Saha, Treasurer Prof Dr Mostafizur Rahman Al Arif, Proctor Prof Dr Luthfor Rahman, Public Relation Officer Prof Dr Provash Kumar Karmakar and provost of different dormitories were present here.
RU started its journey on July 6, 1953, with only 161 students and 68 teachers in 6 departments under 3 faculties.
At present, the university has over 1,231 teachers in 58 departments under 9 faculties, along with 9 research institutes and 18 residential halls where 11 for male students and 6 for female, another Sheed Mir Abdul Kayyum International Dormitory for international students and researchers – 37,248 are regular students, 43 PhD holders, 106 MPhil fellows and 149 researchers on the campus.
