Dhaka – The Rajdhahi Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) on Wednesday took over former law minister and senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed’s Gulshan house following a court order.
Talking to reporters Rajuk’s executive magistrate Khandaker Waliur Rahman said they took over the house through carrying out an eviction drive.“We have launched the eviction drive at about 11:00am and we’ve already taken over the house,” he said in the afternoon.
The utility services including gas, water and electricity of the house were disconnected before launching the eviction drive while valuables and furniture of the house were removed later on.
Moudud Ahmed termed the Rajuk’s eviction drive “unlawful” saying that it has been evicted without serving him any prior notice.
“I have been evicted from my house unlawfully as I am involved in the opposition party’s politics. I was not served with any notice before carrying out the drive,” he said while talking to reporters in front of his house. Moudud has been living in the house for 36 years.
Hearing the eviction news, Moudud appeared in front of the house around 3:10pm.
Rajuk started the eviction drive to take over the property as the Supreme Court ordered it to mutate the 1.13 bgha land at Road-79 of Gulshan-2 where Moudud Ahmed had been residing since 1981.
On Sunday, the Appellate Division dismissed two petitions filed by the BNP leader seeking a review of its earlier verdict scrapping his possession of the property.
A large number of police were deployed around the house to avert any unpleasant incident during the eviction drive.
Asked about his next move, the BNP standing committee member questioned as to what he has to do.
“There is no way to go to the court at this moment. I filed a civil suit (Case No. 561) seeking order not to carry out eviction drive. The court also issued summon to Rajuk in this regard but the drive was carried out amid it. Now what I can do?” he said.
Indicating the Rajuk officials who were present during the drive, Moudud said the drive proved that there is no rule of law in the country.
He requested reporters to see as to how his belonging was taken away which he said the highest example of revenge.
The court did not say to evict us from the house. The Rajuk also did not serve any notice. I have been evicted from the house since I am involved with opposition politics. This is not happened if it is a case of ruling party leader, he said.
“Now, I have no alternative but to lie on the street,” he said.
Rajuk magistrate Waliur Rahman told reporters that they would not confiscate the valuables of the house, rather they would hand over those to the owners.
Staying half an hour inside the house, Moudud Ahmed came out from inside the house at 4:45pm and told reporters that he has been evicted from the house forcibly.
As per the existing law, he said Rajuk should have given notice before carrying out any eviction drive against any one. “But, they didn’t follow it.”
Moudud said he will go to the court seeking justice against the ‘injustice’ done to him.
Replying to a question he said the valuables of the house was being taken to their vacant flat at Residence No 2 and Road No 51, nearby the house.
On Sunday, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed two petitions filed seeking a review against the SC verdict that scrapped Moudud’s possession of a house at holding No 159 in Gulshan-2 area of the capital. – Staff Reporter
