Rani Hamid clinches Nat’l Women’s Chess title

Dhaka – WIM Rani Hamid grabbed the title of the 38th National Women’s Chess Championship after the final round at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room on Saturday.To clinch the national woman title for the 19th time, Rani Hamid who plays for Titas Club won eight games and lost only one to earn eight points this season.Rani Hamid secured a title last time in 2011 and first in 1979.
In the last round, Rani Hamid beat WFM Zakia Sultana while WFM Nazrana Khan Eva of Manikganj finished runner-up with seven points, losing the last round to Jannatul Ferdous.
Noshin Anjum of Narsingdi, Jannatul Ferdous and Kazi Zarin Tasnim of Dhaka finished on 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively through tie-breaker as each of them earned matching 6.5 points.
Three players–WFM Zakia Sultana, Thakur Zania Haque and Wadifa Ahmed–placed 6th to 8th respectively after tie-breaker as each of them earned six points.
Four players — Umme Taslima Protiva Takulder, WFM Afroza KhanamBably, Ahmed Walijah and Jhorna Begum — tied on 5.5 points and placed 9th to 12th throughtiebreakingsystem.
In the final round, Noshin beat Kiswara Shajrin Evana, Zarin beat Protiva, Zania beat Munia, Wadifa beat Srabonti Akter Jerin, WFMBablybeat Sadia Afrin Samia, Walijah beat Jannatul Ferdousi, Jhorna beat Warsia Khushbu and Farajana Hossain Annie played draw with Urbana Chowdhury.UNB
