Chattogram, July 30 (UNB) – A suspected rapist was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Maliara village in Patiya upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Arman, 25.
Mashkur Rahman, Assistant Director of Rab- 7, said a patrol team of the elite force conducted a drive at the village under Kusumpura union in the early hours to arrest Arman.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, Arman and his accomplices fired gunshots at the Rab members forcing them to retaliate, he said.
The youth was found lying dead on the ground after the gunfight, the Rab official said, claiming that they recovered a firearm, seven bullets and nine empty cartridges from the spot.
Arman was an accused in a case filed for raping Class-VIII girl of Maliara village.
