Rastrochinta leaders sent to jail over Facebook posts

Political organisation ‘Rastrochinta’ leaders Didarul Bhuiyan and Minhaz Mannan Emon, also Dhaka Stock Exchange director were sent to jail in a case filed under the Digital Security Act for their anti-government posts on Facebook.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Mahmuda Aktar passed the order after rejecting their bail pleas.Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Jamshedul Islam produced them before the court and sought seven-day remand to interrogate each of them.

The court would hear the remand prayers after conclusion of general holidays with complete case documents, said Sub-Inspector Nizam Uddin of Ramna Police Station.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested them and handed them over to Ramna police on Wednesday evening. Warrant Officer of Rab-3 Md Abu Bakar Siddique filed the case against 11 people including them on Tuesday.Earlier, cartoonist Kabir Kishore and writer Mushtak Ahmed were also sent to jail in the case.

According to case statement, the accused created confusion among people by spreading rumours using different Facebook posts and cartoons.
