Dhaka – Veteran left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak of Khulna Division has become the first Bangladesh bowler to take 600 first class crickets.
He reached the milestone bagging seven wickets conceding 69 runs against Rangpur Division on day-1 of the 4th round of the National Cricket League (NCL) on Saturday.
“I’m happy, very happy. I must say taking 600 wickets in the first-class cricket is not a joke. I’m fortunate enough to be the first Bangladeshi cricketer to do so,” an emotional Abdur Razzak told the media at the end of the first day’s play at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur in the evening.
“It requires too much skill to achieve the record. I’m not skilled enough to do so. But I did it. I’m feeling really lucky. I always try to do well whenever I get a chance to prove myself. I never thought that I can reach this level. But it’s true that I did it,” he added.
The southpaw started playing first-class cricket in 2001-2002 season. Since then, he has been playing regularly well in domestic cricket. At the same time, he played for the national side for more than 10 years. Like in domestic cricket, he enjoyed enormous success in international cricket as well.
“I don’t like to say goodbye to professional cricket at this moment. I just can say I’ll keep playing cricket as long as my mind wants. Everything depends on the fitness as well,” Razzak said.
Along the process of taking 600 wickets in first-class cricket, Razzak registered five or more wickets in an innings for 39 times, which is also the record of the most five-for haul in the first-class cricket for the Bangladeshis.UNB
