The re-excavation of Harabati canal of Borotara union under Khetlal upazila of the district was launched yesterday.
The Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) implemented about 6.20-km re-excavation work, including two crossing dam, of the canal at a cost of Taka one crore under its Coordinated Agriculture Development Programme, BMDA sources said.
Khetlal Upazila Parishad Chairman Taiful Islam Talukder formally inaugurated the re-excavation of the canal at a function.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Rasel Manjur, upazila vice chairman Sirajul Islam Bulu, executive engineer of BMDA Harun-or- Rashid, Borotara UP Chairman Borhan Uddin were present, among others, at the function.
BMDA sources said if the canal was excavated properly all the farming lands of the area could be brought under irrigation with the preserved water round the year. -BSS, Joypurhat
