All preparations have been completed for holding the 10th parliamentary elections in a free, fair and impartial manner in three parliamentary constituencies here amid tight security measures tomorrow (January 5).
Returning Officer Farid Ahammad, who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur, has already formed election monitoring committees, law and order control cells, vigilance and observation teams and provided them with necessary responsibilities.
The Election Commission will hold the 10th parliamentary elections in three constituencies out of total six as three candidates have already been unofficially elected unopposed in the other three seats in the district.
According to official sources, the concerned government agencies including district and upazila administrations, Bangladesh Army, RAB, Police and Ansar-VDP have been working round the clock to make the election a total success.
This time, 10,87,431 voters including 5,40,001 males and 5,47,430 females will cast votes at 2,186 booths in 471 polling centres in Rangpur-3, Rangpur-4 and Rangpur-6 parliamentary constituencies in the district.
The election commission has already appointed 7,029 election officers including 471 Presiding Officers, 2,186 Assistant Presiding Officers, 4,372 Polling Officers 12,060 Polling Officers and completed their training for conducting tomorrow’s polls here.
Distribution of election materials, including ballot papers, transparent ballot boxes and stationary items will be completed today and the election officials along with the election materials will reach at their respective polling centre today.
According to the officials, two candidates Sabbir Ahmed of Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) with election symbol of ‘Moshal’ and Hussein Muhammad Ershad of Jatiyo Party (JP) with election symbol ‘Langol’ are in the fray in Rangpur-3 (Sadar) consistency.
In Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha and Kawnia) constituency, two candidates including Tipu Munshi MP of Awami League (AL) with election symbol of ‘Boat’ and JP candidate Md Karim Uddin Bharsha with election symbol of ‘Langol’ have been competing the polls. -BSS, Rangpur
