Dhaka – After refusal of the both families to accept their love affairs, a teenage couple jumped into the Hatirjheel Lake in the capital on Friday morning, resulting in the death of the boy.
The deceased was identified as Ehsanul Haque, 16, son of Ekramul Haque Kamal of 114 New Eskatan Road in Moghbazar.Sub-inspector of Badda Police Station Jahangir said Ehsanul and the girl together jumped into the lake around 6am to commit suicide.
Seeing the incident, some van-pullers rushed in and rescued the girl. However, Ehsanul drowned in the meantime.
Later, Fire Service divers recovered the body of the teenage boy after a frantic search. The body was sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Both the boy and the girl were deeply distressed when their family members refused to accept their relations, the SI added. – U
