Regent Hospital chairman Shahed arrested

Dhaka, July 15 – Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested the chairman of Regent Hospital Shahed from Satkhira district early Wednesday over the issuance of fake coronavirus certificates from the hospital. Lt Col Ashik Billah, director (media) of Rab Headquarters, told UNB that the prime accused of the Regent Hospital scam case was arrested in a drive conducted in Devhata frontier area of Satkhira around 5:30 am while he was trying to flee to India.

An illegal firearm along with some bullets was also recovered from his possession, said Ashik Billah. He is now being taken to Dhaka from Satkhira, he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, the RAB force arrested managing director of the Regent Hospital from Gazipur district. – UNB

Other sources said Md Shahed was wearing a ‘Burka’ and had embarked a boat to cross a canal to the other side of the border. He was brought out of the boat in this outfit with only his face uncovered.
UNB adds: Shahed is being brought to Dhaka in a Helicopter.
Regent Hospital Chairman Mohammad Shahed has been on the run after the law enforcers raided the Mirpur and Uttara branches of Regent Hospital on July 6 on the charge of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging the admitted patients exorbitant fees.
The head office of Regent group was sealed off and 16 people, including the chairman, were sued on charge of issuing fake coronavirus test reports.
Besides, a case was filed against Shahed on July 14 on the charge of misappropriating more than Tk 91 lakh from a transport exporter in Chattogram.

Earlier JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina was arrested on Sunday in a case filed for issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates. Sabrina is now on a three-day remand and the case of Sabrina will handle by the Detective Branch of Police.
