Rizvi sent to jail upon surrender in arson cases

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Thursday sent BNP Senior Joint
Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to jail rejecting his bail petitions in five arson cases filed with Ramna, Motijheel, Khilgaon and Pallabi Police Stations.
Judge Quamrul Hossain Mollah of the court passed the after hearing on the bail petitions, the BNP leader submitted. Earlier, Rizvi surrendered to the court seeking bail in the cases.
Of the five cases, two were filed with Pallabi Police Station and one each with Ramna, Khilgaon and Motijheel Police Stations for carrying out subversive activities during hartal and blockade programme sponsored by the BNP-led 20-party alliance in 2013 and 2015. Rizvi’s counssel Sanaullah Mia filed the bail petitions.
Besides, the court granted bail to the BNP leader in another arson case filed with Jatrabari Police Station, last year.
Earlier on August 11, another Dhaka court issued warrants for the arrest of 56 persons, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in two of the arson and violence cases, filed with Motijheel and Khilgaon Police Stations.-Court Correspondent
