Road crash kills 3 transport owners in B’baria

Brahmanbaria – Three leaders of district Tank-lorry owners’ association were killed as a truck crashed into their motorcycle on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sarail upazila on Monday.The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam, 45, president of the association, its general secretary Ali Azam, 40, and member Shahjahan Miah, 50. All of them hailed from Ghatura area of the district town.Police said the accident took place around 12pm when a speeding truck rammed the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction at Bertala on the road, leaving its three riders – Jahangir, Azam and Shahjahan — dead on the spot.Locals alleged that a team of highway police signaled the stone-laden truck to stop in the area.As the truck driver did not stop the vehicle, a police man threw his hand stick towards the driver but it accidently got entangled into a wheel of the motorcycle whereby it overturned on the road after its driver lost control.Later, the truck hit the bike from behind.Later, locals blocked Dhaka-Sylhet highway demanding exemplary punishment of the policemen, creating long tailbacks on the both sides of the blockade that caused immense sufferings to commuters.Later, a police team rushed in and brought the situation under control firing blank shots and teargas shells.(UNB)
