A suspected robber was beaten to death by a mob at Khanpukur Moupukur village in Birampur upazila early yesterday.The deceased was identified as Nazmul,50, son of Jahir Uddin of Bochaganj upazila.Quoting witnesses, police said a gang of robbers swooped on the house of Alimuddin and tried to commit robbery in the early hours on Tuesday.Sensing the presence of the robbers, a group of locals chased them off.The bandits exploded three crude bombs while fleeing.
The locals later managed to catch one of the robbers and gave him a good thrashing, leaving him critically injured.Later he was rushed to Birampur Upazila Health Complex where he died around 8:30 am on Tuesday.Amiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Birampur Police Station confirmed the incident.
