‘Robber’ killed in Jhenaidah ‘gunfight’ with cops

Dhaka -An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police beside the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway in Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah early Sunday.Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.Gopinath Kanjilal, assistant superintendent of police (Sadar Circle), said acting on secret information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in front of the Dudhsor Housing Project site on the highway, a team of police launched a drive there around 3:00am,UNB News Agency Reported.Sensing presence of the police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, a member of the gang was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.Two police constables –Nazrul Islam and Amad Ali — were also injured in the incident.Police recovered one shutter gun, two rounds of bullet, five live bombs and some sharp weapons from the scene.
