Rokeya University teachers, employees start work abstention

The teachers and employees of Begum Rokeya University began indefinite work
abstention on Thursday to press home their seven-point demand.
They announced the indefinite work abstention programme after getting no assurance
over fulfilling their demand in the meeting held with Vice Chancellor Dr. A. K. M. Noor
– un – Nabi on Wednesday.
The Vice Chancellor reportedly misbehaved with the teachers’ delegation in the meeting.
Campus sources said teachers and employees under the banner of ‘Progressive Teachers’
Alliance’ locked the administrative building of the university, staged demonstration and
held rally in the morning.
Some 674 teachers and employees of the university had been staging protests since July
25 for payment of their arrear salary and job regularisation.
Tabibur Rahman a teacher of Mass Communication and Journalism Department also a
spokesperson for Progressive Teachers’ Alliance said they held meeting with the Vice
Chancellor but did not get any positive result.
The University Grants Commission held up salary of the teachers and employees of the
university as former Vice Chancellor of the university Dr. Abdul Jalil Mia had appointed
338 teachers and employees without its approval. –UNB, Rangpur
