Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Rajshahi University (RU) unit demanded trial of Begum Khaleda Zia, the BNP chairperson, for her controversial remark on the martyrs of Liberation War. The BCL leaders and activists brought out a protest rally from the party tent at 12:00pm to press home their demands. The rally, rounding the main streets on the camus, terminated at the same point in a gathering.
BCL RU unit acting president Rashedul Islam Ranju, general secretary Khalid Hasan Biplob, vice president Firoz Mahmud and organizing secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu spoke at the event.
Speakers said Khaleda Zia has cast doubt on the number of people who embraced martyrdom during the Liberation War in 1971.
They urged the government to enact a law with provisions of punishment for denial of historically established facts and settled issues.
Speakers also demanded cancellation of Khaleda’s citizenship alleging her conspiracy to turn the country into a unstable one.
The program was attended, among others, by vice president Mehedi Hasan Rasel, joint general secretary Golam Kibria and Sahanur Shakil, organizing secretary Saddam Hossain, disaster management and relief affairs secretary Faruk Hasan, deputy library affairs secretary Saddam Hossain Rubel, members Sakibul Hasan Baqi, Shahin Sarkar Don, and leaders-activists of different hall units.
