Dhaka-The general students, especially new comers of the university, can flourish their merit not only in academic but also in extra-curricular activities. Huge scope is available here for extra ordinary activities while as the Rajshahi University (RU) has a great tradition of education and research. The University of Rajshahi, one of the large and most attractive university campuses across the country, is known for its neat and clean environment by green trees, mainly mango and lichi trees.
Administrative sources said in the past 63 years history of the university over 167 thousand students obtained their graduation and post graduation degrees. More than 1568 scholars across the country have been awarded with M.Phil and PhD degrees from here.
The university started its journey on July 6, 1953. Since then the institution has been rendering a commendable service in the field of higher education, research work and disseminating knowledge accommodating every year about twenty two thousand students.
Since the inception of the university in 1953, normal academic activities of it started in 1954.
Twelve degree colleges and 8 intermediate colleges were affiliated to this university at the initial stage it. RU had begun its academic activities with only 161 students, 5 of whom were girls and a total of 20 teachers.
In 1961 all academic, administrative and dormitories were shifted to its own campus at the evergreen Motihar chhattar, although administrative activities resumed after the completion of present administrative building in 1964.
It has now 57 academic departments under night faculties, 6 higher research institutes and 17 residential halls with single dormitory for MPhil and PhD fellow.
About 25,000 students are studying here and about 1,250 teachers are engaged in imparting knowledge to them.
