Rajshahi, Nov 30 – The Nobojagoron Foundation, a voluntary organization of Rajshahi University (RU) celebrated the Universal Children’s Day named ‘Ekdin Shopner Din’ at Rajshahi University, to decrease ‘social gap’ between the deprived children and the mainstream citizen. Student advisor of the University Professor Dr Laila Arjuman Banu inaugurated the program while Professor Sadekul Arefn Matin of Social Work Department, Professor Rukshana Begum of Accounting and Information Systems dept, Assoc Prof of Statistics dept Md. Munimul Haque, asst Prof Sadiqul Islam of Law dept were present at the function as special guests.
Around one hundred children from different slum areas participated in various sports and cultural events. This event was named as ‘Ekdin Shopner Din’ where those children found a dreamy cheerful day.
The day was started with National Anthem at Central Shaheed Minar of the university. Each volunteer took “Guardianship” of a child for the day. After then organizers along with children visited different points of the campus.
Later, a cultural function was arranged at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium where most of the performers were children.
Marzan Atique Kiron, president of Nobojagoron Foundation said, ‘As the children are deprived of many facilities from the society, we have arranged such a programme with a view to creating ambition in their mind to study in top universities. – RU Correspondent
